On the morning of May 13, an object that appeared to be an unexploded ordnance was discovered during underground excavation work at the demolition site of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences lecture building on 91ÁÔÆæ¡¯s Kasumi Campus in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City. Following the discovery, the police and other relevant authorities promptly initiated an investigation, and the Self-Defense Forces have since completed the removal operation and safely transported the object. All access restrictions around the site have now been lifted.
We sincerely apologize to all concerned, including local residents, for any inconvenience or concern this may have caused.
The University Hospital remained open as usual on May 13 and will continue normal operations from May 14 onward. Lectures at the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmaceutical Sciences¡ªwhich were suspended from the afternoon of May 13¡ªwill also resume as usual on May 14.
Finally, on behalf of 91ÁÔÆæ, we extend our heartfelt respect and sincere gratitude to the police, firefighters, Self-Defense Forces, and all other relevant agencies involved in safely handling this dangerous task.
Note: Unexploded ordnance refers to explosive weapons, such as bombs, used during war or training that did not explode and remain buried in the ground or submerged in water.
